🌿 Welcome to Sykia
Sykia (Συκιά) is one of the oldest traditional villages on the Sithonia peninsula. People have lived here since the Byzantine years, when the whole area belonged to the monasteries of Mount Athos — and you can still feel it in the village's calm stone-house architecture and unhurried rhythm.
The name has two beautiful meanings. Sykia can come from the wild fig tree (συκιά) that grows along the coast — but older locals will also tell you it comes from skiá, the shadow cast across the bay by Mount Athos at dawn. Both are true. Both are us.
A living village, not a resort —
where olives, honey, and the sea still set the pace.
You'll notice we have no big hotels, no all-inclusive crowds. Just family-run tavernas around the square, fishermen at the small port, bakeries that open before sunrise, and a Saturday market that turns the village into a celebration of everything grown nearby.
That's why we built Amira House here — to share a slower, more honest Greece with you. We hope you take it all in: the long lunches, the salty afternoons, the sunrise over the Holy Mountain. Siga siga. Slowly, slowly. 🌊
